Glasshouse irrigation systems

Glasshouse irrigation systems are used to create a tailor-made environment for growing plants. You can manage them with climate-controlled software or do it manually. It's up to you.

Here are some of the benefits.

You can:

  • Deliver nutrient-rich water according to your own specifications
  • Administer it by using drip irrigation, overhead spray-lines, and / or with misting and fogging systems.
  • Apply it during the day as you would normally, but also during the night when it's cooler. This improves absorption.

There is much less waste when plants get what they need at their roots.

The crops that seem to benefit the most from these systems are those in which the fruit hangs down from the plant. Strawberries are a good example, as you can see from the picture.

Service contracts

Despite your best efforts to keep everything running smoothly, it's inevitable that your equipment will break down - usually at the worst possible time, such as a Bank Holiday weekend. Although you can't predict when this will happen, you can take steps to minimise the impact.

One thing you can do is to take out a 24/7 repair and maintenance service contract so that all of your systems are kept in the best possible working order. That way those components which are showing signs of wear can be identified and replaced before they create a serious problem for you.

This is especially true for irrigation systems. All plants need water, and some of them require a great deal more than others. You don't want this system to ever break down.
